Times Online have called him “one of the most startling talents to emerge in the English game”, Durham Head Coach, Geoff Cook said “he’s genuinely extraordinary”, Richard Cramer, FrontRow Legal described him as having “the potential to develop into one of the country’s top all-round cricketers” … is it a bird…is it a plane…

Ben Stokes is making a big impression in cricket. He is the latest from the renowned production line of talent that is the Durham Academy which boasts alumni including England stars Steve Harmison and Graham Onions.

18 year old Ben followed his maiden century in only his fifth first-class match against Nottinghamshire with a 161 in the first innings against Kent last week and then amassed a score of 42 not out from just 22 balls.

“As people saw at Canterbury, he’s very powerful and he likes to hit the ball hard, but underlying it is a solid and essentially orthodox technique…he’s fearless in both ways in that he really likes the ball coming on to him quickly, but nor is he afraid to attack the spinners.” Cook continued:

“He’s in the team now, both championship and one-day, and the way he’s playing he’s showing he has the temperament as well as the ability to stay there. There is plenty of experience around him if he needs guidance.”

FrontRow Legal are unsurprised by the left-handers success after announcing their sponsorship of the up and coming cricketing all-rounder earlier this year. Partner Richard Cramer said: “It is great to be involved and associated with Ben and to help him during the early part of his career. He has already represented his country at U19 level and with the right commitment and guidance could well be a Test player of the future. We wish Ben continued success in his career and for an outstanding 2010 season.”

Stokes batted with a runner in this week’s return match against Kent. He had injured his ankle whilst fielding on the first day and was ‘restricted’ to scoring 53 including eight fours and a six.

“People ask me how good he can be, how far he can go, will he play for England…The answer is always that in the end its up to the player himself. But in terms of ability, there’s no doubt this lad has what it takes.” Cook said.

We at FrontRow Legal will be raising a glass to his success when Yorkshire take on Durham in the twenty20 match at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Thursday 10 June 2010.
