Ross Heppenstall, Freelance Sports Journalist for national newspapers

‘I have known Richard for well over a decade and during that time we have worked together on several stories for national newspapers on legal issues related to football, rugby league and rugby union. Richard speaks with skill and absolute authority on legal matters in all sport (litigation, contractual, political landscape of sports) but particularly the three codes listed above. During the Covid-19 crisis I have written numerous articles about how sport will be affected and Richard’s views, from a legal standpoint, have formed the basis of these stories. Two that stand out were his take on the Rugby Football League leading the pleas for Government support and the Jonny May transfer from Leicester to Gloucester setting a precedent on player contracts ending and starting mid-season. Prophetic words, indeed.’
